Benzaldehyde,3-ethoxy-4-hydroxy-.
3-Ethoxy-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde [121-32-4].
»Ethyl Vanillin, dried over phosphorus pentoxide for 4hours,contains not less than 98.0percent and not more than 101.0percent of C9H10O3.
Packaging and storage— Preserve in tight,light-resistant containers.
Identification—
Solution: 8µg per mL.
Medium: methanol.
Melting range á741ñ: between 76and 78.
Loss on drying á731ñ Dry it over phosphorus pentoxide for 4hours:it loses not more than 1.0%of its weight.
Residue on ignition á281ñ: not more than 0.1%.
Assay— Dissolve about 300mg of Ethyl Vanillin, previously dried and accurately weighed,in 50mLof dimethylformamide contained in a 125-mLconical flask.Add thymol blue TS,and titrate with 0.1Nsodium methoxide VS,using a magnetic stirrer and taking precautions against the absorption of atmospheric carbon dioxide.Perform a blank determination, and make any necessary correction. Each mLof 0.1Nsodium methoxide is equivalent to 16.62mg of C9H10O3.
