Flexible Collodion
»Prepare Flexible Collodion as follows:
Camphor 20g
Castor Oil 30g
Collodion,a sufficient quantity,to make 1000g
Weigh the ingredients,successively,into a dry,tared bottle,insert the stopper in the bottle,and shake the mixture until the camphor is dissolved.
Packaging and storage— Preserve in tight containers,at a temperature not exceeding 30,remote from fire.
Labeling— The label bears a caution statement to the effect that Flexible Collodion is highly flammable.
Identification—
A: When exposed to air in a thin layer,it leaves a transparent,tenacious film.The film exhibits a distinct odor of camphor.The film of pyroxylin so obtained burns rapidly,with a yellow flame.
B: When mixed with an equal volume of water,it yields a viscid,stringy mass of pyroxylin.
Specific gravity á841ñ: between 0.770and 0.790.
Alcohol content— Proceed as directed in the test for Alcohol contentunder Collodion.The content of C2H5OHis between 21.0%and 25.0%.
