Sucrose octaacetate [126-14-7].
»Sucrose Octaacetate contains not less than 98.0percent and not more than 100.5percent of C28H38O19,calculated on the anhydrous basis.
Packaging and storage— Preserve in tight containers.
Melting temperature á741ñ: not lower than 78.
Acidity— Dissolve 1g in 20mLof neutralized alcohol, and add 2drops of phenolphthalein TS:not more than 2drops of 0.1Nsodium hydroxide are required to produce a red color.
Water,Method Iá921ñ: not more than 1.0%.
Residue on ignition á281ñ: not more than 0.1%.
Assay— Transfer about 100mg of Sucrose Octaacetate, accurately weighed,to a 500-mLconical flask, and dissolve in about 50mLof 70percent alcohol.Neutralize the solution with 0.1Nsodium hydroxide VS,using phenolphthalein TSas the indicator.Add 25.0mLof 0.1Nsodium hydroxide VS,attach an air condenser to the flask, protect from absorption of carbon dioxide, and reflux on a steam bath for 1hour.Remove from the steam bath, cool quickly, and titrate the excess alkali with 0.1Nsulfuric acid VS,using phenolphthalein TSas the indicator.Perform a blank determination (see Residual Titrationsunder Titrimetry á541ñ).Each mLof 0.1Nsodium hydroxide is equivalent to 8.483mg of C28H38O19.
